Edward J. Walsh Announces Candidacy for State Representative in the Third Bristol District

Taunton, MA — On May 1, 2026, Edward J. Walsh, a lifelong public servant and dedicated leader in the Taunton community, officially announced his candidacy for State Representative of the Third Bristol District.

 

Ed Walsh brings decades of experience in public service to his campaign. A 27-year Veteran of the United States Army, he has also served the Taunton Police Department for more than 30 years, including the past 15 years as Chief of Police.

 

Among his many leadership roles, Walsh has served as President of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council; Interim Director of the Taunton Emergency Management Agency; and a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Throughout his career, Walsh has built a reputation for leadership, innovative thinking, and a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.

 

As he prepares to retire from the Taunton Police Department in October 2026, Walsh is seeking to continue his service to the people of Taunton in a new capacity as a legislator. After years of serving on the front lines of public safety, he understands firsthand the impact state laws and policies have on local communities. Serving as a legislator would allow him to bring that practical experience to the State House, advocate for safer communities, and help craft effective, common-sense solutions for the people of Massachusetts.

 

“I have dedicated my life to serving the public, and I’m looking forward to continuing that service in a different role,” said Walsh. “As I prepare to retire from the police department this October, I feel strongly that I can still make a meaningful impact. I’m committed to working to bring the Democratic Party back to its roots—focused on serving the people and addressing the issues that matter most to working families.”

 

Walsh’s campaign will focus on key priorities including strengthening public safety, improving affordability for residents, and ensuring greater accountability in government.
